Calvin and Hobbes is a "closed" collections in that there are no new strips being produced. There is a Complete Calvin and Hobbes being produced, but that's not very exciting (or maybe it is), so I'll ignore that here. The main strip reprints books appear to be nearly complete, though I've heard that a few comics are omitted. The books come in three flavors, which I've arbitrarily named below.

Square Books: These I've so named because, well, they're somewhat squarish in appearance. They hold 3 daily strips or 1 Sunday strip on each page. Calvin and Hobbes Sunday strips are unique in that many of them cannot be "cut", removing the top third of the panel. All of the book lines, therefore, preserve the whole strip. The Sunday strips are in in black and white..
Long Books: Four of the books were never put into treasury form. These books are longer than they are tall, but each page contains the same content (3 dailies or 1 Sunday) as the Square Books. The Sunday strips are in color.
Treasuries: There are three Treasuries, each reprinting the contents of two of the Square Books. Since there were 7 Square Books, one of them was never put into Treasury form. These books also adds various extra material and print the Sunday strips in color.
